About Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh made colour and brushwork a way of expressing how the world felt. Largely self-taught, the Dutch painter developed his art through close observation, drawing and a restless willingness to experiment.
In Paris, the work of the Impressionists encouraged a brighter palette and more distinct strokes. In the south of France, those discoveries became the animated landscapes and expressive portraits that define his work.
