About Vincent van Gogh
Dutch · 1853–1890
Vincent van Gogh made colour and brushwork a way of expressing how the world felt. Largely self-taught, the Dutch painter developed his art through close observation, drawing and a restless willingness to experiment.
In Paris, the work of the Impressionists encouraged a brighter palette and more distinct strokes.
