About Julian Alden Weir
American · 1852–1919
Julian Alden Weir (1852–1919) was an American artist. Weir participated in the development of American Impressionism and was associated with the artists working around Cos Cob in Connecticut. He was also one of the Ten American Painters, the exhibition group formed in 1898. His practice included printmaking alongside painting. The etching selected here offers a quieter encounter with that career, asking the viewer to attend to a figure and a seasonal branch through the restrained means of line, shadow and paper.
