About Henri Rivière
French · 1864–1951
Henri Rivière (1864–1951) was a French artist. Rivière worked as an artist and designer, including the shadow theatre associated with the Chat Noir cabaret in Paris. His printed work later explored landscapes through carefully organised colour and shape. Aspects of Nature placed large decorative lithographs in everyday interiors, broadening the audience and setting for the landscape image. The Woods, Winter offers a spacious encounter with that ambition, letting repeated trunks, open ground and quieter details become parts of a rhythm suitable for sustained looking.
