About George Baxter
English · 1804–1867
George Baxter (1804–1867) was an English artist. Baxter worked in London at a time when colour printing was becoming a commercial medium. His experiments developed methods for bringing several separately printed colours together in one image. The resulting pictures reached audiences beyond the buyers of unique paintings. Christmas Time belongs to that world of accessible, carefully finished images, where a familiar household subject could also demonstrate the richness and variety available through colour printing.
