About Victor Charreton
French · 1864–1936
Victor Charreton (1864–1936) was a French artist. Charreton was born in Bourgoin-Jallieu and died in Clermont-Ferrand. The Musée d'Orsay records his exhibition debut in Lyon and Paris in 1894 and his continued presence at Paris salons through his career. Landscape was central to his painting, with winter villages offering a close encounter between built forms and weather. Murol in the Snow brings those concerns together through compact architecture, bare vegetation and a surface in which closely worked colour makes the cold scene varied and tangible.
