About John La Farge
American · 1835–1910
John La Farge (1835–1910) was an American artist. La Farge worked across painting, illustration, murals and stained glass. His commissions included decorative work for Trinity Church in Boston, and his experiments with glass extended his interest in light and colour into architectural interiors. He also wrote about his travels. The small landscape selected here offers another register of that varied career, using a restrained arrangement of tree, field and sky to make the relationship between colour and space a subject in itself.
