About Helen Hyde
American · 1868–1919
Helen Hyde (1868–1919) was an American artist. Hyde was an American artist whose career included etching, engraving and colour prints informed by her time in Japan. Women, children and everyday activity became recurring subjects. The selected winter works offer different settings for that interest, moving from outdoor figures beneath umbrellas to a more intimate indoor arrangement. Small gestures hold the people together, while delicate lines and restrained colour make the surrounding weather or symbolic plant forms an active part of each scene.
