About Suzuki Harunobu
Japanese · 1724–1770
Suzuki Harunobu (1724–1770) was a Japanese artist. Harunobu worked in eighteenth-century Edo and played a central role in the development of full-colour nishiki-e prints during the 1760s. His designs include slender figures, elegant clothing and quiet encounters, sometimes linked with poetry. The selected winter images offer a close view of that language. A snow rabbit creates a small shared focus for one group, while an umbrella gives another figure a clear enclosing shape. Both arrangements connect human gesture with the larger design.
